Autumn gift wrap

The leaves on the trees around me are slowly beginning to transform into fall's flowers. After a fantastic summer in Copenhagen, autumn is slowly settling its mosaic of colours over the city. If you've seen my floral gift wrapping ideas here and here , you know that I enjoy using natural materials to create gift wraps that are simple but one-of-a-kind.

A couple of days ago I spotted some leaves that had transformed from a lush green to warm, earthy reds and oranges and they inspired me to work on an autumn gift wrap.

Here’s what you’ll need to create this autumn inspired gift wrap:
-    Black wrapping paper
-    Acrylic colours in yellow, orange, red, green and white
-    A paint brush
-    A few autumn leaves
-    Twine
-    Satin ribbon

Dab the leaves with the acrylic paint using a paint brush. For each leaf, I used a mix of two colours to create a natural variation in the shades.

Press the leaf gently onto the black wrapping paper. Make sure you use just a bit of paint and it isn’t too thin. It's a bit like block printing; only you're using leaves instead of blocks.

Repeat this step to cover the paper with the printed leaves. Here’s what it will look like when you’re done.

If you want you can round it off with a satin ribbon. I used a light shade that contrasts well against the black.

I still had some leaves left over so I used them to make this simple gift wrap. I made a hole in the leaves using a punch and strung them together with twine. I love how it gives an earthy, rustic look to the gift wrap. What do you think?
