ve got a rather unusual wedding anniversary-gift story on the Present Perfect series today. It’s unusual and beautiful, just like the person sharing it. Rochelle Coote and I have been following each other’s blogs for a while but it wasn’t until The Hive European Blogging Conference in May this year that we met in person. Rochelle is one of the sweetest people I’ve met.
Beautiful inside out, she is always on the lookout for good in others. That’s why it didn’t come as a surprise that her most favourite gift is special and beautiful, just like her. “I have received many a special gift in my life. I think I am rather lucky to have many friends and family that are pretty gifted (pardon the pun) in giving gifts. One gift, however, does stand out. One my husband gave me for our 5th wedding anniversary.
The traditional 5th wedding anniversary gift is wood and though many a husband may have given a wooden bowl or chair perhaps, mine gave me a fig tree! At the time, we were living in the United Kingdom in a small maisonette and I knew that we would eventually move to a larger home. So I kept it potted and when we moved two years later to our house, we planted it in our back garden.
Little did we know, at the time, that two years later we would move yet again, but this time to another country. Sadly I had to leave my fig tree behind when we moved to Denmark. This summer we spent a couple of weeks in England to visit friends and show our boys the big city of London. We used the opportunity to pay a visit to our old home and I couldn't wait to see how the little fig tree was doing. It has flourished...I was so pleased to see that! Ten years on and it is carrying loads of figs and no one is happier than the tenant harvesting them.
That fig tree was and still is one of the most romantic gifts I have ever received. It's a sign of our love that will grow and bear fruit for a lifetime to be.”
